How We Serve Parents
Every day after school, hundreds of children across Washington, D.C., attend Heads Up. We know parents are busy – that’s why Heads Up offers a safe place for children to spend after-school hours receiving homework help and improving their reading skills.
Helping students succeed
Students report that Heads Up makes them feel safe, confident and better about school. And standardized test data shows that our students improve their reading skills at a much faster rate than other students. In a recent survey, 100% of parents said Heads Up improved their child’s reading skills and that they would recommend the program to other parents.
Family involvement
At Heads Up, we know that family involvement is a key factor in a child’s success at school. Our staff and tutors work closely with family members to learn about a child’s needs and share feedback on student progress. And throughout the year, Heads Up hosts information sessions and visitation days for parents.
For those who want to become more involved, Heads Up hires one to two parents from each community as “parent partners” to assist with classroom management. To learn more about this opportunity, contact the site director at your child’s school.
