What is Heads Up Summer of Learning?

The Heads Up Summer of Learning (SOL) is an academic enrichment program for students in grades K through 8. The program focuses on literacy and community building through literature circles, arts enrichment, and service learning projects. Students work closely in mentoring relationships with local college students throughout the summer. The SOL offers a daily snack, field trips, and extracurricular activities such as dance, art, theater, and sports.

*Please note, Amidon ES is not at a DCPS summer school site, so programming will run from noon - 6 PM including lunch. If you would like your child to attend DCPS summer school in the morning, the nearest location is Payne ES at 305 15th St. SE. Parents are responsible for arranging transportation for their child to attend Heads Up.

How do I Sign Up?

Fill out and submit the an official DCPS summer school enrollment form as soon as possible. Please turn in your child’s form to his or her school’s afterschool coordinator.
You can also find the elementary summer school enrollment form in English and other languages on the DCPS website.

You must check the PM program box to enroll your child in Heads Up. Make sure you write-in the site location at the top of the Summer School application along with "Heads Up".

If you would like to enroll your child in the DCPS morning summer school from 8 AM - noon, check the AM program box as well.

By the first day of summer school, parents will also need to complete the Heads Up Summer of Learning Enrollment form.
